Frequently asked questions

What are the levels and how to find out my level?

In order to learn English effectively, you need to determine your current level of English or other foreign language. Without this stage, learning will be inconsistent, illogical and ineffective. The most objective way to determine the level is to be guided by the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

According to the CEFR, there are 3 categories of foreign language proficiency, A, B and C. Each of them is divided into certain levels of language proficiency, which involve a set of according language abilities and skills:

  • А - basic user. Divided into levels А1 (Starter), А2 (Elementary) and А2+ (Pre-Intermediate).
  • B - independent user. Divided into levels B1 (Intermediate), В1+ (Intermediate Plus), B2 (Upper-Intermediate) and B2+ (Pre-Adanced).
  • С - expert user. Divided into levels С1 (Advanced), С1+ (Advanced Plus) and С2 (Proficiency).

To enroll in a group and start studying at The London School of English, you need to take a free placement test. The test consists of two parts: grammatical and oral (interview with the teacher). The test can be taken online or in the offices of our schools in Kyiv (Livoberezhna metro station, 14 A. Sheptytskoho St.) and Lviv (68 I. Franka St.).

How to find out timetable of groups?

The schedule of classes for all levels is published on the website of the London School of English. Choose for whom (for children, teenagers or adults, online or face-to-face in Kyiv or Lviv; English, French or German courses), then choose a direction (General or Business English, conversational courses or exam preparation), then choose your level and check the schedule of classes and the availability of places in groups.

Haven't taken the level test yet? Take it right now online or at LSE schools in Kyiv or Lviv.

What is your teaching method?

In classes, we use the communicative method. During the lesson, students are immersed in the language environment and focus on live communication: they interact with each other and with the teacher, learning to express their thoughts and understand the interlocutor. In this way, students effectively develop communication skills and overcome the language barrier.

In addition to spoken English, students learn grammar and develop comprehensively all communication skills: speaking, listening, writing and reading.

What is the maximum number of people in the group?

A maximum of 13 students can study in a group. A maximum of 10-12 children study in children's groups of 6-9 years old. We arrange classwork and interactive activities in the way so all students get enough time to practice all language skills.

The group starts studying with a minimum number of students of 5 people.

Do you offer face-to-face classes?

Yes, we offer face-to-face English classes for children, teenagers and adults in our schools in Kyiv (Livoberezhna, 14 A. Sheptytskogo St.) and Lviv (68 I. Franka St.).

Schools are equipped with a shelter, which provides an opportunity to create a safe and comfortable learning environment.

How the classes for children are conducted?

We teach English to children aged 6 and over. Groups are formed according to both age and level of English proficiency, so before enrolling in a group it is necessary to take a free entrance test to determine the level (if a child has never studied English, he/she can immediately enroll without a test in a group for beginners).

In classes, children learn English through games, English-language projects, interactive tasks, and all this - with full immersion in the English-speaking environment. In this way, the English language quickly begins to be perceived as familiar and understandable, and communication soon becomes natural.

We pay particular attention to monitoring the progress of the child's education and are always in touch with parents regarding any questions about the educational process. A personal manager is assigned to each group, who informs parents about progress and final results of studies, attendance and homework completion, provides support on technical issues related to online learning resources. Parents also get access to a personal online cabinet, where they can view recordings of online lessons, check class attendance and pay for tuition without a fee.

Will I get a certificate after completing the courses?

Of course, at the end of each level, you receive a certificate from The London School of English. If you need international proof of knowledge, we are also happy to offer preparation for IELTS, Pearson and Cambridge international exams.

What language are the classes held in?

Classes at all levels are conducted in English. Teachers avoid translation into the native language: we explain new material with the help of associations, pictures, slides, cards, etc. Immersion in the language environment from the first lesson is an effective method of faster overcoming the language barrier and the fear of starting to speak.

At the same time, for beginners, we offer Easy A1 groups, where the material is partially explained in Ukrainian. During the course, the percentage of explanations in Ukrainian gradually decreases and students switch completely to English.

Is it possible to change the teacher?

One or two teachers are assigned to each group for the entire course. If necessary, we can offer a group of the same level with other teachers (if there are available places in the group).

Are there recordings of lessons in online groups?

Yes, students of online groups have the opportunity to watch a video recording of the lesson if they could not attend it for any reason. Access to the video recording of the lesson is stored for 7 days in the student's personal online cabinet.

At what level will I be able to speak confidently?

The level at which communication becomes relatively free is B2 (Upper-Intermediate), or the level of "Independent user". According to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) at this level the user has following knowledge and skills:

  • at least 2,500 words in the active vocabulary (and 5,000 words in the passive vocabulary),
  • 20 grammar rules,
  • vocabulary for communication in at least 10 life situations,
  • advanced reading and writing skills.

Level B2 is minimally required for admission to international educational institutions where teaching is conducted in English.
